Kirchbierlingen , together with Weisel and Sontheim, is one of 17 incorporated suburbs of the large district town of Ehingen (Danube) in the Alb-Danube district in Baden-Württemberg . Kirchbierlingen and the hamlets of Sontheim and Weisel have belonged to Ehingen since January 1, 1973.
history
In a document from the St. Gallen Monastery , as early as 776, a beer lingering as "Pilaringas" is mentioned. In 1208 a Dietrich von Bierlingen is mentioned. And in 1337 a noble residence is mentioned, although it is not clear whether Kirchbierlingen or Altbierlingen is meant. The Counts of Berg , but also the Count Palatine of Tübingen owned the place. In particular, the latter's share in the parish came to the Marchtal Monastery as a founding property in 1171/73 . The monastery gradually came to the whole place through donations and purchases. In 1803 the village and the abbey fell to the Princes of Thurn and Taxis and in 1806 to Württemberg .
Parish Church of St. Martin
The parish church of St. Martin belonged to the Marchtal monastery as early as 1275. It was first mentioned in 776. There are some Romanesque remains in it, but today's church dates back to 1513. There were renovations in 1600/14 and 1858/59. The townscape is also shaped by the baroque rectory built by Abbot Edmund von Marchtal in the years 1758–62.
