Mundingen is a suburb of the large district town of Ehingen (Danube) in the Alb-Danube district in Baden-Württemberg . The village is located 10 km west of the city on the Ehinger Alb and was incorporated into Ehingen in December 1973. Mayor is Winfried Wohlleb.

history

A first document with a reference to "Muntinga" is available as early as 854. Later the village was part of the rule of the Counts of Wartstein. The court of the counts was located south-east of Mundingen on the corridor which is still called the “ regional court ” today . In 1383 a large part of Mundingen came from the Kayb to the Württemberg people . These subordinate the place to their office Münsingen . In 1750 they bought the missing rights from the Zwiefalten monastery . Mundingen was incorporated into Ehingen on December 1, 1973 and is now one of 17 suburbs.

religion

Like the village, the chapel in Mundingen is already documented in 854. Church and parish are proven in 1208. In 1383, the church law, along with other rights, came from the Kayb to Württemberg , which introduced the Reformation in 1538. Today's Protestant parish of Mundingen includes the districts of Mundingen, Dächingen , Erbstetten , Granheim and the churches of the city of Ehingen (Danube) as well as the community of Lauterach and belongs to the Bad Urach-Münsingen church district of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg . The other districts of Ehingen mainly belong to the church district of Blaubeuren . Dächingen, Erbstetten, Granheim and Kirchen as well as Lauterach remained Catholic after the Reformation. Most of the Protestant residents who moved there only after the Second World War were assigned to the Mundingen parish.

The current Protestant church dates from 1790, the even older tower is Gothic. At the beginning of the 20th century, five colored windows with attractive Art Nouveau ornaments were installed in the nave. The two non-representational colored glazings of the choir windows (around 1957) probably originate from Wolf-Dieter Kohler and correspond to his windows in the Gallus Church in Brenz an der Brenz .

Ehinger Alb

Between Ehingen and Mundingen and further to the northwest lies the undulating plateau of the Ehinger Alb , which reaches 720 meters in altitude at the regional court and 730 meters at the Stoffelberg . It belongs to the 853 km² Swabian Alb biosphere area . The approximately 100 km² area is made accessible by numerous hiking trails, 11 of which are linked to the Ehinger Alb reflection trail .
