history
A “Bierlingen” was mentioned for the first time in 776 in a document from the St. Gallen monastery . It is unclear whether today's Ehingen suburb Altbierlingen or the Ehingen suburb Kirchbierlingen is meant. In the year 1219 the place "Altbilringen" is mentioned for the first time, ie Altbierlingen.
Once the place belonged to the rule of the Counts von Berg. With this rule, the place came to Austria in 1343. Altbierlingen has been a pledge since 1681 - just like the Ehingen suburb of Berg. From 1732 on, Altbierlingen was a fief of Count Schenk von Castell. The largest landlord was the Ehingen hospital and various other Ehinger foundations, two fall fiefs owned by the Urspring Monastery and other fiefs by Count Schenk von Castell; there were other feudal holders with lower incomes. In 1805 Altbierlingen was incorporated into the Kingdom of Württemberg and assigned to the Oberamt Ehingen . After the place had previously been administered from Berg, it received its own mayor in 1811. Altbierlingen has belonged to the district of Ehingen since 1938 . Altbierlingen was incorporated into Ehingen on January 1, 1973 and has been a part of it since then.
The Altbierlinger St. Wendelin Chapel dates from the 18th century, apart from its late Gothic west tower. The chapel belongs to the parish of Kirchbierlingen.
