The sheaf in the northern Altmark

The sheaf is a landscape in the Altmark in the far north of Saxony-Anhalt . It forms the northernmost part of the wipe .

geography

The sheaf is an area located about 20 meters above sea level between the Elbe and Aland northeast of Aulosen . It belongs to the municipality of Aland in the Verbandsgemeinde Seehausen (Altmark) and is characterized by grassland . A large part of the landscape belongs to the Aland-Elbe-Niederung nature reserve . The almost 200 hectare "Hohe Garbe" area has one of the largest remaining hardwood forests on the lower Middle Elbe . A BUND project envisages connecting the Hohe Garbe as part of the Green Belt to changing water levels in the Elbe and thus preserving it as a habitat for black storks , sea eagles and otters .

A pheasant hunting area had existed in the sheaf since the middle of the 19th century , which was laid out by forester Friedrich Reuter . Representatives of the Prussian royal family and later German imperial family repeatedly took part in local hunts. Once in October 1871, Kaiser Wilhelm I took part in the hunt in the wake of Carl von Prussia , Friedrich Karl von Prussia , Otto von Bismarck and others.

history

In 1902, Wilhelm Zahn describes the region: “The Sheaf is a sizable forest area surrounded on three sides by the Elbe, which forms the extreme northern tip of the Altmark. When Margrave Woldemar in Tangermünde transferred accessories and accessories to the Amelungsborn Monastery on July 11, 1319 , Gharive is mentioned among the forests . When, on August 12, 1405, Paridam von Plote (Plate) promised those von Jagow a right-wing truce to the House of Owlosen (Aulosen) and the associated judicial districts, the Veltmarke to der Charwe was also mentioned. From the name Feldmark one could perhaps infer a Wendish settlement that used to exist here. But traces of such a thing are nowhere noticeable. "

He went on to write: "In the sheaf, which still belongs to the von Jagow family today, there is a forester's house belonging to Stresow ". The forester's house Garbe , however, belonged to the Groß Aulosen manor district .

Johann Ernst Fabri reported in 1796 that the Garbedörfer Groß Aulosen and Klein Aulosen had the right to graze their cattle on the sheaf.
