The Gauliga Westfalen 1937/38 was the fifth season of the Gauliga Westphalia in football. FC Schalke 04 secured the championship with eight points ahead of Borussia Dortmund . The "Royal Blues" remained without defeat for the third season in a row. Schalke qualified for the final round of the German championship , where they were defeated in the final replay against Hannover 96 and became runner-up. The relegation ranks were occupied by SuS Hüsten 09 and SV Rotthausen . Preußen Münster and Arminia Bielefeld rose from the district leagues . On April 15, 1938, the Bochum clubs Germania , TuS 08 and TV 1848 had to merge to form VfL Bochum .
