Ascents

Since there are no managed refuges in the region , the Geierhaupt and its neighboring peaks can only be reached on long day trips and are therefore rarely visited.

  • Marked ascent from the forest on the Schoberpass or Unterwald into the Liesinggraben , at the former Postl farm in the Ripplgraben , steeply to the Hocheggriedel and finally over the Grieskogel to the Geierhaupt. Long route, surefootedness required. Walking time from the forest about 5 hours, when driving into the Liesinggraben 4 hours.
  • Marked path from Gasthof Beisteiner to Bärensulsattel , on via Lattenberg and Goldkogel to Kerschkern (kogel) , finally over Schrimpfkogel from the west to Geierhaupt. The route is strenuous due to its length and two major counter slopes; Surefootedness required. Walking time about 5 hours.
  • Unmarked climbs (e.g. from Ingeringsee over the Saurücken or from the Hintertriebental over the Schaunitztörl ) require good orientation skills and, if possible, a knowledge of the terrain.

Crossing the main ridge of the Seckauer Tauern between Hochreichhart and Geierhaupt has climbing passages up to difficulty level II in the area of the Hirschkarlgrat and is therefore reserved for those with alpine experience.
