Geisfeld is a district of the municipality of Strullendorf in the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg with over 900 inhabitants.

geography

Neighboring towns in the north are Pödeldorf , Naisa , Litzendorf and Melkendorf (all municipality of Litzendorf), in the east Mistendorf (municipality of Strullendorf), in the south Roßdorf am Forst , Leesten and Wernsdorf (all municipality of Strullendorf) and in the west Bamberg . Geisfeld is located southwest of the Geisberg .

history

On May 1, 1978, the previously independent municipality of Geisfeld was incorporated into the municipality of Strullendorf.

Attractions

Barrows

There are early Celtic barrows on the state road between Geisfeld and Litzendorf . The group of hills is partly in the forest. The diameter of the burial mounds varies between 8 and 25 meters. During excavations in the 19th century, material from the Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age was found.

Blood well

The so-called blood fountain is also located on the state road. The water from this spring is very ferrous and its taste is said to be similar to that of blood.

Wendelinus oak

On the forest path between Geisfeld and Melkendorf are the remains of the Wendelinus oak, also known as the thousand-year-old oak. The oak is said to have had significance as a cult symbol.

Schlossberg

On the Schlossberg you can still see the outline of a Carolingian - Ottonian fortification. The legend of the cruel Count Giso is associated with the Schlossberg. He is said to have sent a farmer, who had to deliver his entire harvest to the count, with his wagon into the abyss. At the moment of the farmer's death, the count's castle is said to have collapsed.

In Geisfeld there are the breweries Griess (raw materials from organic agriculture ) and Krug (closed since the end of 2018) as well as the Landgasthof Büttel with a hotel; directly opposite is the guest house Luisenhof.
