The Geisberg is 585  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the Franconian Alb . It is located near Zeegendorf in the community-free area Geisberger Forst in the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg , Bavaria ( Germany ).

Geographical location

The Geisberg rises in the Franconian Switzerland-Veldenstein Forest Nature Park within Franconian Switzerland . It is located in the Geisberger Forest between the immediately adjacent municipal areas of Strullendorf in the south, Litzendorf in the northwest, Heiligenstadt in the east and the community-free area of Hauptsmoorwald in the west.

To the north-west of the Geisberg lies Melkendorf , a district of the Litzendorf beyond it, and to the north is the Litzendorf district of Lohndorf . To the east are the Heiligenstadt districts of Herzogenreuth and Lindach . The Strullendorf districts of Zeegendorf , Mistendorf and Leesten are located in the south and Geisfeld in the southwest.

The small Otterbach rises on the northwest flank of the Geisberg as a left source brook of the Gründleinsbach flowing through the two aforementioned Litzendorfer districts . A few kilometers to the east, the Leinleiterbach runs through the Heiligenstadt municipality as a tributary of the Wiesent . To the south the mountain is passed by the Zeegenbach (also called Ziegenbach), which flows through the three first-mentioned Strullendorf districts as a Regnitz tributary.

Protected areas

The entire Geisberg and most of the Geisberger Forest are located in the extreme southern part of the fauna-flora-habitat area Albtrauf from Dörnwasserlos to Zeegendorf (FFH no. 6032-371) and also belong to the western part of the 1021.64 km² large area founded in 2001 Landscape protection area Franconian Switzerland-Veldensteiner Forest ( CDDA -Nr. 322697).

Transmitter

On the Geisberg operates Bayerische broadcasting the transmitter Bamberg / Geisberg . VHF and DAB are broadcast from a 107 m high reinforced concrete tower.
