Former town hall (Mairie) of Genac

Genac is a village and a former French commune of 760 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Charente in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016 Poitou-Charentes ). It belonged to the arrondissement of Cognac and the canton of Val de Nouère (until 2015: canton of Rouillac ). The inhabitants are called Genacais .

With effect from January 1, 2016, the former municipalities of Bignac and Genac were merged into a commune nouvelle called Genac-Bignac . The former municipalities have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in Genac.

geography

Genac is about 19 kilometers north-northwest of Angoulême . The Charente crosses the former municipality in the north. The municipality of Genac was surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Marcillac-Lanville in the north, La Chapelle in the north and northeast, Vouharte in the east and northeast, Bignac in the east, Saint-Genis-d'Hiersac in the south, Saint-Cybardeaux in the west and southwest and Gourville in the north-west.
