Karl Amundson

Karl Albert Byron Amundson (born November 29, 1873 in Grythattan, † February 21, 1938 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish major general and first commander of the Swedish air force .

Life

Amundson became a lieutenant in 1894 and a captain in 1904 . From 1911 to 1915 he was Swedish military attaché in Paris and from 1913 to 1918 in Brussels . He was director of the Field Telegraph Corps from 1915 to 1920 and 1924 to 1925, and became a colonel in 1924 and major general in 1926 . Amundson had already dealt with balloons and air sails in Paris in 1900 and was subsequently involved in the founding of the Swedish Air Sports Association. Based on this previous experience, he was appointed first commander of the Swedish Air Force in 1926.
