Micael Bydén

Micael Bydén (born June 13, 1964 in Gnarp ) is a Swedish general . Since October 1, 2015 he has succeeded Sverker Göranson as Commander in Chief of the Swedish Armed Forces .

Life

Bydén joined the Swedish armed forces in 1982 and completed his first military training at the Academy of Coastal Artillery in Gothenburg . In 1985 he was made a lieutenant and began his training as a fighter pilot. After completing his training and acquiring the type rating on the Saab 37 Viggen , he worked for the F 21 association in Luleå from 1989 to 1997 . There he was deployed from 1996, meanwhile as a major , also as deputy squadron captain .

After completing the Swedish staff officer course in 1999, Bydén was transferred to Washington DC as an air force attaché for three years , before taking up a position on the staff of the Swedish air force at the headquarters of the armed forces in Stockholm from 2002 to 2003 . In 2001 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel.

These assignments were followed by troop commands from 2003, until 2005 as commander of the flight school of the Swedish Air Force and from 2005 as deputy commander of the air force helicopter squadron in Linköping . In 2006 he was promoted to colonel , in 2008 Bydén became commander of the squadron and in 2009 brigadier general in this capacity .

Prior to his appointment as Air Force Inspector in 2012, Bydén served as the Air Force Training and Procurement Head on the Swedish Armed Forces staff. On October 8, 2013, Bydén visited the Tactical Air Force Wing 73 "Steinhoff" at Rostock-Laage Airport . Mats Helgesson succeeded him in October 2015 as the new Air Force Commander.

Private

Micael Bydén is married and has three children. He plays golf , hunts and skis .
