Sven-Olof Olson (born November 26, 1926 in Oskarshamn ) is a former Swedish lieutenant general .

Life

Sven-Olof Olson joined the Swedish Air Force in 1948 and initially served in the F1 squadron in Västerås as a pilot on the J 30 ( De Havilland DH.98 Mosquito ) in night hunting and J 33 ( De Havilland DH.112 Venom ). In 1957 he was promoted to captain , department head in the Air Force headquarters, in 1963 lieutenant colonel and chief of the planning department. As a colonel he was commodore of the F16 squadron in Uppsala from 1971 to 1973, after which he worked in the defense staff. In 1980, Olson was made Lieutenant General, Commander of the Southern Defense Area, and on October 1, 1982, Air Force Commander. On September 30, 1988, he gave the office to Lars-Erik Englund .

The development of the STRIL 60, one of the most modern air defense systems at the time, goes back to Olson's work in the 1960s. a. planned the networking of radar data from the aircraft and ground stations.
