Georg Christian Strecker (born August 30, 1800 in Darmstadt , † June 19, 1874 in Tübingen ) was a German politician and revolutionary.

Georg Strecker was the son of the Grand Ducal Hessian Vice Director of the Rentkammer Arnsburg Georg Ludwig Karl Strecker (1762–1804) and his wife Anna Sybilla, née Dietz. Strecker, who was of Protestant faith, married Karoline, nee Bansa, on January 1, 1825, the daughter of the chamber councilor Johann Conrad Bansa. He was related by marriage to Christian Bansa and Karl Jaup .

Life

Georg Strecker attended a Darmstadt high school. He went to Jena, Heidelberg and Giessen to study law . In these places he joined the original fraternity (1818/19), the old Heidelberg fraternity (1819) and the old fraternity Germania Gießen (1820). In 1824 he was promoted to Dr. iur. utr. PhD.

Since he defended the Giessen black man Christian Sartorius , he was expelled from civil service.

In 1832 he led the Mainz delegation to the Hambach Festival , where he was elected a member of the provisional government. In July 1832 he chaired a meeting of liberal politicians in Frankfurt. The fraternity members Friedrich Siegmund Jucho and Franz Karl Gärth had invited them. In 1840 he organized a meeting with 40 liberals on a steamship.

From 1832 to 1834 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the Hessian Estates . He was elected for the constituency of Upper Hesse 11 / Hungen . In 1849/50 he was a member of the first chamber of the Hessian state parliament.

Later his wine business went bankrupt. As director of the Düsseldorfer Dampfschifffahrtsgesellschaft he was instrumental in the emigration of many liberal politicians.

In the revolutionary year of 1848 he was a member of the preliminary parliament .
