Christoph Keil

Christoph Keil (born December 17, 1805 in Melbach ; † November 10, 1872 ibid) was a Hessian farmer and politician and member of the 2nd Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

Christoph Keil was the son of the farmer Johann Philip Keil and his wife Marie, nee Stier. Keil, who was of Protestant faith, was a farmer in Melbach and married Anna Elisabeth nee Keil.

From 1847 to 1849 and again from 1871 to 1872 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the Estates. He was first elected for the constituency of Upper Hesse 11 / Hungen and then for the constituency of Upper Hesse 12 / Ossenheim. From 1843 to 1872 he was mayor of Melbach. On March 13, 1848, Keil published a submission of the places Wölfersheim , Weckesheim , Obbornhofen , Wohnbach , Södel and Melbach to the Second Chamber of the Hessian Estates. In a total of 19 points he made demands of political and economic liberalism . The entry was signed by 700 residents of the places mentioned.

In 1848 he was a member of the preliminary parliament .

From 1867 to 1871, Keil fought vehemently against plans by the Dorheim Mining Authority to build a mine in Melbach to extract lignite . Nevertheless, the Ludwigshoffnung mine was opened in October 1871.
