Georg F. Thoma (born November 27, 1944 in Trier ) is a German lawyer .

Life

Georg F. Thoma studied after graduation 1966 ( Prüm / Eifel ) Law in Freiburg and Bonn . He has been working as a lawyer in Düsseldorf since 1975 . In 1977 and 1978 he practiced at Linklaters & Paines (now Linklaters ) in London and in 1978 at Shearman & Sterling in New York. He continued his work in Düsseldorf in 1979 in the law firm Galler Meyer-Landrut Miller , since 1980 as a partner. In 1991 Georg F. Thoma became a founding partner for the German practice of Shearman & Sterling and has been of counsel for this firm since January 2015 .

Georg F. Thoma 's legal practice focuses on corporate law , in particular stock corporation and corporate law , takeover and securities law , banking law , mergers and acquisitions , corporate restructuring and major arbitration proceedings . He advises national and international companies. In his consulting practice, he has played a decisive role in transactions that are important for Germany, such as national takeovers and mergers ( ThyssenKrupp , E.ON ( Veba / Viag )), ( Dresdner through Allianz SE ) and international takeovers and mergers (including Daimler Chrysler , Allianz / RAS ), the conversion of stock corporations into European stock corporations (SE) ( Allianz , BASF , Fresenius ) as well as restructuring and divestments (including Chrysler by Daimler , Dresdner Bank by Allianz , Sal. Oppenheim ). Other major focuses of his work were privatizations in Central Germany ( Leuna , Buna , Bitterfeld , LAUBAG , MIBRAG , VEAG , Mitteldeutsche Kali ) in the years 1991 to 1995.

Georg F. Thoma is married and has a daughter and three sons.

Georg F. Thoma is a member of the Board of Trustees and Working Committee of the Museum Kunstpalast Düsseldorf Foundation , a member of the Board of Trustees of the Situation Art Foundation , Bochum , and the Board of Directors of the Düsseldorf Community Foundation.

Thoma has been a member of the Deutsche Bank Supervisory Board since 2013 . On April 28, 2016, he resigned from his supervisory mandate and thereby also resigned from his position as Chairman of the Integrity Committee. Thoma made his decision to resign after all members of the Supervisory Board "unanimously" approved the nomination council's resignation recommendation.
