Georg Höpfner

Ernst Georg Philipp Höpfner (born October 8, 1780 in Gießen , † June 22, 1845 in Darmstadt ) was a German judge and member of parliament.

Georg Höpfner was the son of Professor of Law at the University of Gießen Ludwig Friedrich Höpfner (1743–1797) and his wife Marianne nee Thom (1751–1840). Höpfner, who was a Protestant denomination, remained unmarried.

Georg Höpfner studied law and was appointed court judge in Darmstadt in 1808 and judge of appeals and cassation in 1811 .

From 1832 to 1833 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse . He was elected for the constituency of the city of Alsfeld . He represented liberal positions in the estates. He was elected in the constituency of the city of Darmstadt in the first electoral term. However, the government of the Grand Duchy of Hesse declared the election invalid. Although the state parliament declared the election valid with a narrow majority in October 1820, a new election was ordered. In the same election, Höpfner was also elected in the constituency of the city of Friedberg. This election was declared invalid in March 1821 by the second chamber. A new election was ordered, but was not implemented until the end of the first term and the seat remained vacant.
