Karl Steinberger

Friedrich Karl Steinberger (born December 27, 1811 in Butzbach , † May 11, 1857 in Schotten ) was a Hessian Protestant pastor, politician and member of the 2nd Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

Karl Steinberger was the son of the pastor Johann Carl Christoph Steinberger and his wife Henriette Luise Christine, née Snell. Steinberger married Anna Christine Mathilde née Snell.

After attending grammar school in Butzbach, Steinberger studied theology and philosophy at the University of Gießen from 1828 . During his studies he became a member of the old Gießen fraternity Germania in 1828 and of the Teutonia fraternity in 1832 . Because of his fraternity activities, a case was later initiated against him; he is mentioned in the Black Book of the Frankfurt Central Authority (1833-1838), but acquitted on December 9, 1836 by the court in Giessen .

From 1831 to 1835 he was court master from 1835 to 1837 parish assistant in Rodheim and from 1837 to 1857 pastor in Grünberg . He was made an honorary citizen of Grünberg.

Around 1848, during the March Revolution , he was the editor of the progressive paper "Wächter an der Schwalm". From 1849 to 1850 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the Estates . He was elected for the constituency of the city of Alsfeld .
