Carl Niemeyer

Carl Hermann Heinrich Niemeyer (born March 14, 1845 in Dannenberg ; † August 31, 1906 in Hildesheim ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

He was the son of a secret government councilor and his wife Wilhelmine, nee Hutzler.

Military career

Niemeyer received his upbringing in his parents' home and in the cadet houses in Bensberg and Berlin . Subsequently, on April 9, 1864, he was transferred as a second lieutenant to the Emperor Alexander Guard Grenadier Regiment No. 1 of the Prussian Army . With this association he took part in the battle of Königgrätz in 1866 during the war against Austria . After the end of the war , he was transferred to the 3rd Hannoversche Infantry Regiment No. 79 on October 30, 1866 . Here Niemeyer performed his service in the 6th Company. With the beginning of the war against France , he was appointed adjutant appointed the II. Battalion and took in that capacity in the battles with Vionville in which it by a piece of shrapnel wounding at thigh suffered, and Le Mans as well as the siege of Metz in part. In the meantime promoted to Prime Lieutenant on October 20, 1870 , Niemeyer received both classes of the Iron Cross for his achievements .

After the Peace of Frankfurt , Niemeyer graduated from the War Academy for three years . He then worked as a captain and company commander in the Hessian Fusilier Regiment No. 80 in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe . There he was promoted to redundant major on March 22, 1887 and on October 15, 1888 as commander of the III. Battalion in Infantry Regiment No. 137 transferred to Strasbourg . On June 18, 1892, Niemeyer was promoted to lieutenant colonel . A month later he was transferred to Dieuze as a regular staff officer in Infantry Regiment No. 136 . While remaining in this position, promoted to colonel on March 22, 1895 , Niemeyer was appointed commander of the infantry regiment "Graf Kirchbach" (1st Lower Silesian) No. 46 in Posen on May 13, 1895 . From April 18, 1896, he was employed as commandant of Glogau . In this capacity he received the character of major general on July 20, 1898 . In approval of his resignation application , Niemeyer was put up for disposal on April 18, 1901 with the statutory pension . Shortly thereafter, Wilhelm II awarded him the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves, in recognition of his longstanding services .

He spent his old age in Hildesheim.

Niemeyer was married to Marie, nee Baroness von Tiesenhausen .
