Georg Theodor Hoffmann (born March 2, 1902 in Lutsk , Volhynia , † August 21, 1988 in Kiel ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian and university professor .

Life

Born in Volhynia , Hoffmann studied Protestant theology at the Universities of Göttingen and Marburg after graduating from the Knights and Cathedral School in Reval . 1929 took place in Göttingen his doctorate to Lic. Theol. Hoffmann was installed as a Protestant pastor in Duderstadt in 1926 , then moved to Lewe-Liebenburg near Goslar , before he was appointed to Göttingen student pastor in 1932. In 1934 he took over the pastor's office of the St. Martini parish in Dransfeld , in 1942 he moved to Verden an der Aller in the functions of superintendent and first cathedral preacher . After the Second World War , Hoffmann was first appointed as a part-time rector, in 1952 as a full-time rector at the pastoral college of the Hanover regional church in Loccum , and in 1956 he resigned from this office.

Hoffmann completed his habilitation in 1932 as a private lecturer for systematic theology at the University of Göttingen ( The Last Supper as Meal of the Church ), where he lectured until 1941 . In 1956 Hoffmann accepted a full professorship for practical theology at the University of Kiel , where he also held the office of university preacher. In the academic year 1964/65 he held the rectorate , in 1970 he retired . In addition, he was a member of various committees and synods in the area of ​​his regional church, the EKD and the VELKD . He focused his research on the history of theology of older Lutheranism, the doctrine of worship and the border areas between theology and canon law .

Hoffmann, who was awarded an honorary theological doctorate from the University of Göttingen in 1957, had been married to Margarete, born in 1927 and with whom he had three children, died in 1988 at the age of 86 in Kiel.
