Georg Joseph Malkmus

Georg Joseph Malkmus (born April 23, 1811 in Hünfeld , † June 13, 1877 in Fulda ) was a German Catholic theologian . Malkmus became a professor at the episcopal seminary in Fulda and was one of the most important representatives of political Catholicism in Hesse. As a member of the Electoral Hesse assembly of estates , he represented ultramontane positions.

Life

Malkmus studied from 1830 to 1834 Catholic theology at the Episcopal Seminary in Fulda and at the University of Würzburg . In 1834 he received his doctorate at the theological faculty of the Würzburg University with the dissertation De ea, quae inter jus ecclesiasticum et theologiam historicam et systematicam intercedit, relatione to the doctorate of theology . In the same year he was ordained a priest in Fulda . Malkmus initially taught for a few years as a religion teacher at the grammar school in Marburg . From 1839 he was a professor of dogmatics and church history , from 1851 also for canon law , at the episcopal seminary in Fulda and was appointed sub-rain there in 1846 .

From 1849 to 1850, the 12th and 13th Landtag, and from 1863 to 1866, the 21st Landtag, Malkmus was a member of the Hessian cadre for the highest taxed persons in the Fulda district . As a staunch opponent of the Erfurt Union , he warned in July 1849 against the Three Kings Alliance . In the assembly of the estates he was one of the leading representatives of a small faction of Greater German Ultramontaner MPs and was thus in opposition to the liberal majority in the state parliament. Voting often resulted in cooperation with the Democrats, but also with the Conservatives.

In 1851 Malkmus was appointed clergyman and in the same year a member of the episcopal ordinariate in Fulda. In 1862 he was elected cathedral capitular in the Fulda bishopric . Georg Joseph Malkmus died on June 13, 1877, at the age of 65 in Fulda. He was the author of numerous theological writings, some of which had multiple editions. From 1849 to 1854 he was editor of the correspondent of the Piusverein .
