On March 1, 1513 he was appointed bishop of the diocese of Vienna by Emperor Maximilian I and confirmed by Pope Leo X on August 12 . His episcopal ordination on November 13th in St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna was the first since the diocese was founded in 1469.
In 1521 the Reformation preacher Paul Seperatus came to Vienna, whom Slatkonia had to have preached in St. Stephen's Cathedral on January 12, 1522.
He is buried in St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna.
The Archdiocese of Vienna has been awarding the Bischof Slatkonia Prize for new liturgical music since 2000 .
