from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

George Classen , actually Heinz Georg Classen (* 1942 in Lübben ), grew up in Berlin from the age of four weeks and is a German painter of modern art .

Life

George Classen was born in Lübben near Berlin in 1942. At the age of seven he was already copying copper engravings by the old masters of Nuremberg. Soon afterwards, George Classen was inspired by the works of Pablo Picasso or Gustav Klimt , but without copying them. At the age of 13 he discovered classical music as his second passion, which was always motivating. This was followed by graphic training at the "Famous Artist School" in Frankfurt am Main from 1969 to 1971 and for several years as a graphic designer in advertising. George Classen has been an exclusively freelance artist since 1979 and has since had numerous exhibitions in Canada , the United States , Spain , Germany , Austria and Japan . George Classen is married to Eva, who supports him with constructive criticism.

About his art

"George Classen's works show traits of abstract , cubist and occasionally surrealist art (eg Robert Delaunay , Pablo Picasso ) with some art nouveau-like ornaments." From the report "George Classen" by Petra Breidenstein, 2011

George Classen is of the opinion that everyone perceives their environment differently and interprets it differently. He sees the task of an artist in presenting his personal feelings to the viewer - but without imposing his way of looking at things. The viewer should interpret the artist's work himself and enable a “transformation of the invisible” - that is, to make the invisible visible.

Under his recurring theme “ Physiognomic Landscapes”, George Classen understands the following: He draws lines from the coordinate system of the (mostly) human face, which he supplements with elements such as color and other lines. This creates a connection between autonomous abstractness and what is actually real and pictorial. The intended ambiguity should give the viewer the opportunity to stimulate his own imagination.

George Classen uses the title “ Chance and Necessity ” from a book by the natural scientist and Nobel Prize winner Jacques Monod as the motto for the creation of his works. "The coincidence is the distribution of the impulse-controlled lines and colors, the necessity is the coordination of the elements to a coherent whole." ( George Classen )

Media reports

“His art seeks encounter with people, it wants to communicate. [...] She tries to reach the viewer on the level of affects, the imaginative idea. […] Classen's painting […] tries to make the inner reality visible in color and form. [...] For him, painting does not mean copying the object, but realizing impressions, that is, not reproducing nature but presenting it. "( From the Mostviertel bazaar )

“George Classen's world of art is dominated by a profound knowledge of classical music and ancient history, transforming his inspiration into endless variations of shape and color by combining acoustics with the visual. In this way the reproduction of the obvious is avoided. ”( From the Miami Herald 1991 )

"Some of his works have an ornamentation that is similar to works of Art Nouveau and, in terms of painting technique, resembles works by Gustav Klimt or works by Friedensreich Hundertwasser ." ( Petra Breidenstein, sworn expert for appraisals in Berlin by the IHK )
