George Murphy (special effects artist)

George Murphy is a special effects artist .

Life

Murphy began his career in the early 1990s and made his feature film debut working for Industrial Light & Magic with Steven Spielberg's fantasy film Hook . He was with ILM for a decade, then moved to Kim Libreris ESC Entertainment and later to Weta Workshop . From 2007 he worked at ImageMovers . Murphy was first involved in a television production in 2014. For his work on the adventure series Black Sails , he was awarded the Primetime Emmy in the same year .

In 1995 he won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects for Robert Zemecki's Forrest Gump, along with Ken Ralston , Stephen Rosenbaum and Allen Hall . They also won the BAFTA Film Award in the Best Visual Effects category , together with Doug Chiang .
