George Wilhelm von Sydow lived as a district administrator in the town of Altdamm , east of Stettin. He exercised the office of district administrator until his death in 1767; Carl Bogislav von Ramin succeeded him in office .

After the death of his father he inherited a share of 1/4 of the Woltersdorf estate . In 1736 and 1739 he bought the other shares in Woltersdorf. But he got into economic difficulties and had to sell Woltersdorf to his brother Carl Friedrich von Sydow in 1752.
