Gerd Höhne

Gerd Höhne (born August 13, 1929 in Dautzschen , Torgau district ; † May 22, 2019 ) was a GDR diplomat who was ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva between 1976 and 1979 and from 1982 to 1986 Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Vienna .

Life

Gerd Höhne, son of a worker who visited after the elementary school , the business school and from 1949 to 1952, the Workers 'and Peasants' Faculty (ABF). In 1952 he began studying at the German Academy for Political Science and Law " Walter Ulbricht " (DASR) in Potsdam , which he graduated in 1955 with a degree in political science. He then joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MfAA) as an employee in 1955 and was, among other things, embassy secretary at the embassy in Czechoslovakia between 1961 and 1963 . Subsequently he was head of a section from 1963 to 1965 and deputy head of the International Organizations department at the MfAA between 1965 and 1966. In 1966 he began postgraduate studies at DASR, which he completed in 1968 with a doctorate as Dr. rer. pole. completed.

After that, Höhne was again deputy head of the International Organizations department at the MfAA between 1968 and 1976 and in 1976 replaced Gerhard Kegel as ambassador and permanent representative at the United Nations Office in Geneva . He remained in this post until 1979, after which Gerhard Herder succeeded him there. Most recently, in 1982, he succeeded Gerhard Schramm as ambassador and permanent representative at the United Nations Office in Vienna and remained there until he was replaced by Klaus Wolf in 1986. In this role, he also worked for the Vienna- based international organizations IAEA (International Atomic Energy Organization), UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization), UNCITRAL (United Nations Commission on International Trade Law), NSG and Zangger Committee , OPEC , Secretariat for the Agreement on Public Procurement (GPA) and UNHCR (Commissioner for Refugees of the United Nations) accredited .
