Geremias Steinmetz (born February 26, 1965 in Sulina , Paraná ) is a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Londrina .

Life

Geremias Steinmetz was ordained a priest on February 9, 1991 . He initially worked as a parish priest before becoming rector of the philosophical seminary in the diocese of Palmas-Francisco Beltrão in 2002 . In 1997 he obtained a licentiate in liturgy. From 2006 to 2010 he was vicar general there .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on January 5, 2011 Bishop of Paranavaí. He was ordained episcopate on March 25th of the same year by the Bishop of Palmas-Francisco Beltrão, José Antônio Peruzzo ; Co- consecrators were Dadeus Grings , Archbishop of Porto Alegre , and Fernando Panico MSC , Bishop of Crato . As a motto he chose COGNOVERUNT EUM IN FRACTIONE PANIS .

Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Londrina on June 14, 2017. The inauguration took place on August 12, 2017. In February 2019 Steinmetz was elected President of the regional conference Sul 2 within the Brazilian Bishops' Conference for three years .
