Orlando Brandes (born April 13, 1946 in Urubici ) is a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Aparecida . He was previously Archbishop of Londrina .

Life

Orlando Brandes studied philosophy and theology in Curitiba and Rome . He was ordained a priest on July 6, 1974 . He was first professor of theology in Santa Catarina , before 1987 rector of the Seminary of Florianópolis was. In Santa Catarina he was also director of the Theological Institute.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Joinville on March 9, 1994 . The Bishop of Lages , João Oneres Marchiori , donated him episcopal ordination on June 5th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Gregório Warmeling , Old Bishop of Joinville, and Eusébio Scheid SCJ , Archbishop of Florianópolis. He chose DEI ENIM SUMUS ADIUTORES as the motto .

On May 10, 2006 he was by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed Archbishop of Londrina and introduced to office on July 23 of the same year. In the Brazilian Bishops' Conference , Brandes was President of the Episcopal Commission for Life and Family from 2007 to 2011. In 2007 he attended the fifth general conference of Latin American bishops in Aparecida as a delegate.

Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Aparecida on November 16, 2016. The inauguration took place on January 21, 2017.

On May 17, 2019, Pope Francis also appointed him Apostolic Administrator of the vacant Diocese of Limeira .
