Gergő Bíró (born May 17, 1994 ) is a Romanian ice hockey player who has been playing at the ASC Corona 2010 Brașov in the Romanian ice hockey league and the multinational MOL league since December 2015 .

Career

Club

Gergő Bíró, who belongs to the Hungarian-speaking Szekler minority in Romania , began his career at HSC Csíkszereda , the traditional Szekler club from his hometown, for which he played in the Hungarian U18 league. 2010 moved to Slovakia to play at HK Nitra in the highest Slovak division of his respective age group. At the end of his junior years, he returned to HSC Csíkszereda in 2014, for which he played a season in the MOL league and occasionally in the Romanian league . Since 2015 he has been playing at ASC Corona 2010 Brașov, also in the MOL league and the Romanian ice hockey league. With the club he became Romanian champion in 2017 .

International

Bíró plays internationally in contrast to other Szeklers who compete for Hungary , for his native Romania . In the junior division, he took part in the U18 World Championships in 2010 , 2011 and 2012 and the U20 World Championships in 2012 , 2013 and 2014 in Division II.

Bíró made his debut in the men's national team at the 2014 World Cup in Division I, when the Romanians were relegated to the division, and in 2018 . At the 2017 World Cup , he was part of the Romanian team in Division II, with whom he was promoted to Division I.
