Gerhard Pohl (born August 16, 1937 in Guben ; † May 30, 2012 at Jessern in Schwielochsee ) was a German engineer and CDU member of the People's Chamber of the GDR. From April to August 1990 he was Minister for Economic Affairs of the GDR .

Life

Born as the son of a weaver, Gerhard Pohl completed an apprenticeship as a cloth maker . 1955 to 1958 he studied at the engineering school for textile technology in Forst (Lausitz) with a degree as an engineer for textile technology. From 1959 to 1967 he worked as an operations assistant and technologist at VEB Vereinigte Feintuchwerke Forst. He completed a distance learning course at the Technical University of Dresden in 1969 with a degree in engineering. Has worked as director for research and product development since 1977, and received his doctorate in 1978 as a Dr. oec. From 1986 to 1990 Pohl was the first deputy director of operations at VEB Forster Tuchfabriken .

Pohl's political path began when he joined the GDR CDU in 1958. Since 1972, Pohl has been a member of the board of the CDU Forest District Association (Lausitz) . In 1989 he was a brief member of the GDR's CDU party executive. From 1981 to 1990 Gerhard Pohl was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR.

On April 12, 1990, Pohl was appointed Minister of Economics to the GDR Council of Ministers headed by Prime Minister Lothar de Maizière .

After he was found to be complicit in the economic misery in the GDR, he asked for his release. De Maizière accepted this offer of resignation on August 22, 1990.

After the fall of the Wall, Gerhard Pohl was managing partner of a company for the development of refined plastics in Forst / Lausitz. He was also chairman of Forster Tuchmacher e. V.

Gerhard Pohl was an avid sailor. Since 1959 was a member of the association "Seglergemeinschaft Schwielochsee" in Jessern. On May 30, 2012, he was found lifeless in the Schwielochsee .

Pohl worked as an unofficial employee at the Ministry for State Security .
