Gerhoh from Waldeck

Gerhoh von Waldeck (also Geobaldus von Waldeck ; † 1359 ) was Bishop of Chiemsee from 1354 to 1359 .

Life

Gerhoh's year of birth and his origin are not known. Is considered possible that he from the Diocese of Freising came or in Gurk and Salzburg occupied ministerial family of Waldeck came. In 1322 he was a student at the University of Bologna and from 1348 as Canon of Salzburg , where he was dean from 1350 .

After the death of the Chiemsee Bishop Konrad von Liechtenstein at the beginning of November 1354, the Salzburg Archbishop Ortolf von Weißeneck appointed Gerhoh von Waldeck as his successor. The papal confirmation took place on December 23, 1354. Since Chiemsee was an own diocese of Salzburg, Gerloh also performed episcopal acts as auxiliary bishop in the archbishopric of Salzburg. In 1359 he consecrated the Marienkapelle built by his predecessor in the Salzburger Chiemseehof , the residence of the bishops of Chiemsee.

Gerloh von Waldeck died ( probably on September 7th ) in 1359. His place of death and burial is not known.
