Adalbert von Fohnsdorf (also Albert von Fohnsdorf ; † 1322 ) was bishop of Chiemsee from 1293 to 1322 .

Life

Adalbert came from the Salzburg ministerial family of Lords von Fohnsdorf and Rabenstein in Styria . He studied in Padua and was after the death of Chiemseeer Bishop Friedrich von Fronau of his uncle, the Salzburg archbishop Konrad IV. Of Fohnsdorf , appointed his successor on October 8, 1293. Adalbert tried to resolve the conflict between the Archbishop and Duke Albrecht of Austria and in 1297 received the order from Pope Boniface VIII to summon Duke Albrecht to Rome within three months under threat of ban .

Since he was also auxiliary bishop in Salzburg, he has several times occupied an auxiliary bishop outside his district. In 1307 he targeted the pastor of Taxenberg on behalf of the Archbishop , in 1310 he took part in the Salzburg Provincial Council and 1311-1312 in the Council of Vienne .

As Bishop of Chiemsee, he campaigned for the construction of an episcopal residence in Salzburg. As a result, the bishops should have a permanent seat in Salzburg, also because of the fulfillment of auxiliary episcopal tasks outside their district. For this purpose he acquired in 1313 in addition to the property mentioned in the papal bull for the Chiemsee diocese next to the Laurentiuskirche, a garden from the St. Peter monastery . He began in 1315 with the construction of the residence, which is still known today as the " Chiemseehof ".

It is not known where Adalbert von Fohnsdorf died or where he was buried.
