Johann Ebser
Johann Ebser († 1438 ) was bishop of Chiemsee from 1429-1438 .
Life
Johann came from the Lords of Ebbs . For the year 1407 he is recorded as canon of Salzburg , where he has held the office of hospital master since 1409. During the absence of the Salzburg vicar general and official , later Archbishop Eberhard IV von Starhemberg , who took part in the Council of Constance , Johann Ebser acted as his representative. In 1427 the Salzburg parish was transferred to him. After the death of Archbishop Eberhard von Starhemberg, Johann Ebser, together with Canon Sigismund von Volkersdorf, was appointed assistant to the economist Kraft von Haslau . In the same year he consecrated the first church in Frasdorf .
After the death of the Chiemsee bishop Friedrich Deys , Johann Ebser was appointed as his successor by the Salzburg Archbishop Johann II von Reisberg in 1429 . Since he was also auxiliary bishop in Salzburg, several auxiliary bishop activities in the archbishopric of Salzburg are documented for the years 1431–1437. In 1434 he took part in the Reichstag in Nuremberg and in 1434 in the Reichstag in Ulm . In the same year, he presumably stayed briefly at the Council of Basel . On September 20, 1433 he consecrated the new pilgrimage church St. Leonhard von Tamsweg in Lungau . Since 1434 he donated several anniversaries. He also made a rich gift to the library of the St. Peter monastery in Salzburg . He was buried there after his death.
He was often wrongly accused of being the author of the church criticism Onus ecclesiae , which appeared anonymously in 1519, probably by Berthold Pürstinger .
