Silvester Pflieger (also Sylvester Pflieger ; † October 21, 1453 ) was 1438-1453 Bishop of Chiemsee .
Life
Silvester Pflieger was probably of middle-class descent and came from the diocese of Augsburg . As rector of the parish church of Binabiburg , he studied in Padua , where he probably also received his doctorate. In any case, he was named Dr. iur. can. documented when he was pastor of Bruck in Styria and in the same year received the provost's office in Friesach in Carinthia . 1427 he was appointed to the parish of throwing in the Archdiocese of Salzburg providiert . Although he tried to get a canonical in Passau as early as 1424 , he did not receive it until 1427. In 1426 he was rector of the parish church of Radkersburg and chancellor of Salzburg's Archbishop Eberhard III. proven by Neuhaus . From 1427 he was provost of Schliersee and in 1430 exchanged these benefices for the office of cathedral dean of Passau.
After the death of the Chiemsee Bishop Johann Ebser , the Archbishop of Salzburg, Johann II von Reisberg, appointed Silvester Pflieger as his successor on February 24, 1438. The episcopal ordination took place on March 2nd d. In 1439 he belonged to an embassy that was to negotiate shortly before the Pope's schism on behalf of King Albrecht II with Pope Eugene IV and the Council of Basel . After Albrecht's death in November 1439, he was taken over by King Friedrich III. Sent together with other representatives to the Reichstag in Mainz. As Bishop of Chiemsee, Silvester Pflieger consecrated Salzburg Archbishop Friedrich IV. Truchsess von Emmerberg in 1442 . As its vicar general he was appointed by King Friedrich III. commissioned to examine the economic and legal issues for the establishment of the Cistercian monastery Wiener Neustadt and to appoint the abbot Heinrich Stremberger. To improve the bishop's income, the parish of St. Johann in Tirol was incorporated into the Chiemsee diocese in 1446 , so that the bishop had a pastoral residence within his diocese in which he could exercise his official duties undisturbed. After the death of Archbishop Truchsess von Emmerberg in 1452, Silvester Pflieger was one of the three compromisers appointed and was allowed to inform the elected Archbishop Sigismund I von Volkersdorf of the election results.
After his death on October 21, 1453, Silvester Pflieger was buried in the parish church of St. Maximilian in Bischofshofen . The high grave is made of Adnet marble and was probably made by the sculptor Hans Baldauf.
