License plates in film productions
For motor vehicles that appear as props in film and television productions , fictitious film or game numbers are often used instead of officially approved license plates , since for reasons of data protection officially assigned license plates of a vehicle approved for use on the road can only be recognized in film and advertising recordings may be if the vehicle owner has given his consent .
variants
- Complete fictitious license plates, in which the license plate cannot be assigned to a registration district; in Germany z. B. the license plate is provided with a distinctive sign that is not assigned to a registration district according to the vehicle registration ordinance (see examples below).
- Common labels with the consent of the responsible licensing authority, which temporarily reserves or blocks a label that is currently not assigned for production.
- In German productions also common distinctive signs in connection with an inadmissible identification number, e.g. using combinations of letters and numbers that are not allowed to be issued according to the vehicle registration regulation, e.g. B. Letter combinations with umlauts or number combinations with leading zeros. Until the letter combinations were released through corresponding changes to the then applicable road traffic licensing regulations , identification numbers with the then inadmissible letters B , F , G (until 1992) and I , O and Q (until 2000) were used. In the case adjustments with case number XY… unsolved , the impermissible letters Ä , Ö or Ü are often used, unless it is the alleged murder vehicle. In addition, individual letters or numbers are displayed as spots if the exact identification is unclear.
Historical license plates , such as license plates of the GDR , are exempt from the data protection restrictions because, like fictitious license plates, they are not (no longer) officially issued.
In the film James Bond 007 - Specter , fictitious Austrian license plates were used, which differ from "real" license plates in that a different national coat of arms was added to a licensing area (here: IL / Innsbruck-Land ) (here: Vienna ).
Significance under road traffic law
Vehicles may only be used on public roads if they are approved for traffic. For this reason, vehicles with fictitious license plates and vehicles without an official license plate may only be used on private property or in areas separated from other public road traffic. If they are to be used for filming on public roads, a special permit must be applied for from the relevant road traffic authority.
