Dieter - The film is a satirical cartoon based on the autobiography Nothing but Truth by the music producer Dieter Bohlen . Both the title track Gasoline and the entire soundtrack were written by Bohlen.

The animated film made by Trickompany Filmproduktion was first broadcast on March 4, 2006 by RTL .

action

Little Dieter is born on a farm in East Frisia . He developed a weakness for pretty women and music at an early age. His father teaches him to always “pack some money on the high edge” because you never know what you might need it for.

As a teenager, Dieter played in several bands and is therefore incredibly popular with the girls. When he grows up, he starts working as a producer for a record company. His work colleague Andy teaches him the success equation “Have money - Have cars - Have women”. So Dieter starts to work and produces - unfortunately unsuccessfully - different artists.

At some point, Dieter met the singer Thomas and founded the band Modern Talking with him , which shortly afterwards celebrated worldwide success. But Thomas' wife, Nora , interferes more and more in the band's affairs and Modern Talking split up as a result.

Dieter then gets to know Naddel , whom he especially loves because of her huge but incorrect bust size. They come together and move into a big house. But later Dieter meets Verona and falls in love again. He separates from Naddel and marries his new love Verona, but she only seems to be after Dieter's money. Verona divorced him and received 300 trillion marks.

Dieter is desperate, but in the hour of need Modern Talking reunite. The success will be greater than ever before. But since he wants to have success and above all the money for himself, he goes to hell . There he is given the choice of spending eternity with Wolfgang Petry , with Thomas or in his studio. Relieved, he opts for the studio, where he meets Verona again.

criticism

Christian Buß from Spiegel.de called this film “a long postponed, completely humor-free animated film biography” “The roughly dashed nonsense reminded of those commercials that croque shops or hairdressing salons used to produce for neighborhood cinemas: Everything groans towards a punch line that advertised Let the product appear in a rather dubious shine. "

Kino.de wrote similarly: "With their animated satire exaggerate, distort, ridicule and ridicule scriptwriter Rolf Dieckmann and director Michael Schaack after 'Derrick - The duty calls' now another shining light on German television."

useful information

The film, which cost around 6.5 million euros, was completed in 2004 and should be released in cinemas in autumn of the same year. After a short-term postponement to 2005, the film release was ultimately canceled by the distributor Universum Film . While there were reports of rumors in the media about the poor quality of the film, the drawings and the story, the official reason was that the timing was no longer appropriate - Dieter - the film would "no longer work" for the cinema . The background to this assessment was the meanwhile flattened hype around Bohlen and Germany, which it supports, is looking for the superstar .

After another year of waiting, the public premiere of the film took place on March 4, 2006 on RTL. The Dieter - The Film , which was mainly only advertised with a bit of cross-promotion , had to play against the simultaneously running and always very high-rated show Wetten, dass ..? but, contrary to critical expert assessments, it reached 5.51 million viewers and thus a market share of 15.9%. Previously, not even the program editors were allowed to see and rate the film, because instead of the usual test sample, they were only given a seven-minute long cut.

Two weeks later, the final of the third season of the casting show Deutschland sucht den Superstar was scheduled to match the broadcast . In addition, the soundtrack for the film appeared parallel to the first broadcast, and Bohlen announced his next book Meine Hammer-Sprüche .

The film was released on DVD on April 12, 2006 .
