action

Wolfgang Zenker (Edgar Selge) is a sales representative for women's clothing of the “Goldberger classic” brand and just before the start of the season bought a new luxury car that he proudly drives. During the presentation of the collection, he learned that a new brand called "Grazilla" was to be introduced, which should replace the old brand within a short period of time. Since the new fashion is cheap, poor quality clothing, Wolfgang refuses to show it to his customers. His competitor Steven Brookmüller (Roman Knižka) from Hamburg does not hesitate long and asks the management to become active in Zenker's area and to sell “Grazilla”.

Wolfgang's son Karsten is a newly graduated high school graduate, earns some money on the side by writing horoscopes and is planning a language trip to Spain with two friends . When the father drives the young people to the airport, he is stopped by the police because of excessive speed. It turns out that he had to surrender his driver's license a week earlier, but that didn't stop him from driving. The policeman puts an end to this, however, so that Wolfgang has to change to the passenger seat and leave the wheel to his son. At first Zenker doesn't know how to make the trips to the customers just a few days later, until he has an idea that he immediately puts into action: He forbids Karsten from going to Spain with the girls and demands that he will serve as his driver for the next few weeks. Karsten refuses, but when he realizes that his father has already stolen the plane ticket from his backpack, he gives up.

On the first trip Karsten only talks bare minimums to his father, and when they arrive at the first store, he refuses to go inside. That's why Wolfgang leaves him behind and throws him a pair of trousers that Karsten is supposed to bring to the dry cleaner while waiting. Karsten first gets into the car without complying with his father's request, but then decides differently. In the cleaning department he meets Steven - without realizing that this is his father's hated colleague. Steven promptly invites him for coffee and at the end even gives him his phone number.

While Karsten and Steven get to know each other, Wolfgang does one bad business after another. Steven regularly comes before him because he has made new appointments that are always a few hours before Wolfgang's appointments. Since the owners of the boutiques are all enthusiastic about the new fashion, even though Steven also works with tricks and lies, Wolfgang loses his temper more and more. In addition, there is also the fact that financial problems are increasing: Since he sells significantly less than planned, he gets well into the red until the bank blocks his account and he has no choice but to open the training account that was set up for Karsten which is 17,000 euros to loot. At first he didn't tell his wife Erika ( Franziska Walser ) anything about it, but she too was anything but enthusiastic about her husband, as she often got into arguments and didn't want to make any progress with the renovation of the bathroom. Erika's divorced friend Brigitta (Traute Hoess) also incites her against her husband.

When Steven visits Karsten, the two finally kiss for the first time. At that moment the father opens the door, but does not enter the room. He tells his son that they would get back at the "Fuzzi" the following day because he had pushed his appointments forward by a few hours - and then Steven suddenly understands who Karsten's father is. Zenker's plan doesn't work out, however, as Steven is now forewarned. In one store, it comes to a head when Zenker chases a customer through the store to convince her that the Grazilla top she's wearing is not right for her. Only when Karsten yells at him does he let go of the customer. Karsten storms out of business. Steven, who was watching the action, runs after Karsten and talks to him. You decide to go to Stevens Pension.

In the meantime, the bailiff showed up at Zenker's house and left his pledge seals everywhere. Erika therefore decides to leave her husband and finds shelter with Brigitta, who runs a pension - the one in which Steven has also moved into a room. While Brigitta and Erika discuss the situation, Steven and Karsten get closer in the next room and finally romp around loudly in bed. Wolfgang, on the other hand, only finds a piece of paper from his wife at home that says "I'm gone!" However, he learns that she is in Brigitta's pension and drives off. Arrived in the parking lot, he discovers Stevens car. Since this is unlocked, he promptly decides to steal the entire demonstration collection from Steven. However, he is noticed by Brigitta, and when the alarm system on Stevens' car goes off, Steven also runs onto the balcony and looks, discovers Wolfgang and immediately runs out into the street. Karsten, who doesn't understand what's going on, also goes to the balcony - and suddenly stands next to his mother, who is at least as surprised as he is. During the hubbub , Wolfgang's car ends up in a small pond, and Stevens' collection gets completely wet. It is more important to him to save the things than to take care of Karsten, which is why he goes home with his father.

The next morning, Steven is at the Zenker's front door. At the breakfast table he meets Wolfgang - understandably neither of them have much to say to each other. However, Karsten gets Steven to leave the car to his father. On the drive, Karsten finally confesses to his father that he is gay. Wolfgang is a bit startled at first and again confesses that he has plundered the student account. When the two finally get home and finish the bathroom tile, they talk and Wolfgang resigns himself to having a gay son. Shortly afterwards, the mother arrives again, a little perplexed by the new bathroom, and she and Wolfgang make it up again.

When Steven picks up the wet things that he had brought to the dry cleaner, he realizes that a single wash has ruined the entire collection. However, he does not take this too tragically, but says that you can simply replace the labels and recommend hand washing instead of 30 degrees. There is still enough time for the items to reach the customers. Since he has now finished his work, he says goodbye to Karsten and drives back to Hamburg.

Reviews

  • Lexicon of international films : “Lively, well-observed family comedy with thoughtful undertones, which entertains carefree and shows a knowledge of human nature. The reference to common television formats and aesthetics tarnishes the joy of the sympathetic film a little. "
  • Brigitte : “And now Ingo Rasper comes with his first album 'Reine Tastessache' via a sales representative for women's clothing (Edgar Selge, as always good as always) and his son. Rasper laconically lets the two, who could not be further, get closer to each other when their father loses his driver's license and son Karsten (great new discovery: Florian Bartholomäi) has to chauffeur him and the new collection to the customers in a furious manner. Everything about this delightful film is as fresh as the milieu, and the humor is - as the representative says - exquisite. "
  • Kino.de: “Summer tragic comedy with 'Polizeiruf 110' commissioner Edgar Selge in a wonderfully funny 'Falling Down', in which a gentle, honest man becomes a raging arsonist. The catastrophes rattle on his haunted, tragic figure at a lively pace. "
  • SR Online: “First of all, it is the outstanding actors who contribute to the success of 'Reine Gusto', above all Edgar Selge, whose play is perfectly balanced between exaggeration and precise character drawing. But of course it is Ingo Rasper's instinct for the right timing, which is of such immense importance in the comedy trade, and the clever script that Rasper wrote together with Tom Streuber, which make 'A Matter of Taste' an extremely successful, hilarious comedy.
