from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich IV. Truchsess von Emmerberg (*?; † March 3, 1452 ) was active as Friedrich IV. Archbishop of Salzburg from 1441 until his death in 1452 .

Live and act

Friedrich came from the von Emmerberg family (noble family) . As Lords of Emmerberg (west of Wiener Neustadt ), they had been entrusted with the office of Truchsessen (chef) in the Duchy of Styria for many generations . From 1427 Friedrich IV was oblaiar of the cathedral chapter , from 1437 cathedral dean . Since 1430 he has been mentioned in a document as the elder of the cathedral chapter ( senior ), which suggests that the archbishop was very old.

The reign of Frederick IV was dominated by the last papal schism . Friedrich took a cautious position against Pope Eugene IV. The Archbishop of Salzburg did not participate in imperial politics.

The reform of the entire Catholic Church failed with the Vienna Concordat . Frederick IV, however, was successful with the reform of the order in his church province, with a provincial synod taking place on February 8, 1451 under Cardinal Nikolaus von Kues . Nikolaus von Kues used all visitors to remedy the grievances , who subsequently visited all the monasteries in the ecclesiastical province. The content of the successful Melker reform was thus continued in the ecclesiastical province of Salzburg.
