Gero Madelung
Gero Madelung (born February 2, 1928 in Berlin ; † December 13, 2018 in Munich ) was a German aerospace engineer, manager and university professor .
Life
Gero Madelung, son of the aircraft manufacturer Georg Madelung and his wife Elisabeth Emma, sister of the aircraft manufacturer Willy Messerschmitt , studied at the TH Stuttgart , the Clarkson College of Technology in Potsdam (New York) and at the TU Munich .
He then began as a test engineer at General Electric and then worked as a development engineer at Messerschmitt AG , including as a member of a development group at Hispano Aviación SA . At the development ring south he was significantly involved in the construction of the vertical take-off aircraft EWR VJ 101 . In 1964 he became a board member of Messerschmitt AG, in 1969 board member of the Panavia consortium for the development of the multi-purpose fighter Tornado .
From 1978 to 1983 Madelung was chairman of the management board of Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm GmbH , afterwards the company's board member . From 1983 to 2003 he was a member of the supervisory board and the international advisory board of Robert Bosch GmbH. He was a member of the supervisory board of the aluminum manufacturer Alcan .
In 1964 he took on a teaching position at the Technical University of Munich, where he held the professorship at the endowed chair for aerospace engineering from 1989 to 1994.
Madelung was married to the therapist Eva Madelung , daughter of Robert Bosch ; the marriage has two children.
