Gerold von Friesach († December 7, 1333 in Friesach ) was Bishop of Gurk .

Gerold von Friesach was born in the Salzburg rulership of Friesach, belonged to the clergy and studied at the University of Bologna . From 1314 to 1326 he was provost at the church of St. Bartlmä in his hometown, for the expansion of which he made great contributions.

In 1326 he was appointed bishop of Gurk, the trust of his liege lord, the archbishop of Salzburg, should have helped him a lot. On April 4, 1326 he was first named as a bishop, the Sedisvakanz after the death of his predecessor Heinrich III. so it should hardly have lasted two months.

With Bishop Gerold, a man rose to the head of the diocese, who, thanks to his excellent economic management, put the disrupted temporalities of the diocese back in order in a very short time. The first thing he did was buy back goods that were alienated from the Gurk Church. He also excelled as a builder and the episcopal residence in Strasbourg was given the facility under his reign that it has preserved to this day. He also donated the Strasbourg Collegiate Church of St. Nicholas and the Hospital for the Holy Spirit for the poor.

Bishop Gerold died on December 7, 1333 in his native town and was buried there in the choir of the Church of St. Bartholomew, which he had built. Despite the short reign he is considered to be one of the most outstanding figures among the bishops of Gurk.
