Hermann von Gnas

Hermann von Gnas († February 26, 1438 ) was bishop of Lavant and opposing bishop of Gurk .

Life

Hermann von Gnas came from a Styrian knight family based in Gnas in Central Styria . In 1430 he became canon in Salzburg and court master of the Salzburg archbishop Johann von Reisberg . He appointed him in 1432 after the death of Gurk Bishop Ernst Auer von Herrenkirchen as his successor, while Duke Friedrich IV of Austria-Tyrol appointed his Chancellor and Bishop of Lavant Lorenz von Lichtenberg . In a settlement on October 25, 1433, the duke and archbishop agreed that Lichtenberg Gurk and Gnas should receive the diocese of Lavant. On November 2, 1433, Hermann von Gnas was appointed Bishop of Lavant by the Archbishop of Salzburg, but died on February 26, 1438. His final resting place has not been recorded.
