Gerhard von Ennstal

Gerhard von Ennstal († October 21, 1284 ) was Bishop of Lavant .

Gerhard von Ennstal came from a Styrian state ministerial family whose castle in the Ennstal was the most important base in Salzburg. His brother Johann von Ennsthal was bishop of Chiemsee and Gurk. In 1258 he became abbot of the Benedictine monastery of St. Paul in Lavanttal , in 1275 he was appointed bishop of Lavant by the Salzburg archbishop Friedrich II von Walchen , but kept the abbey of St. Paul for administration until its consecration in 1278. The Bamberg bishop donated the house in Wolfsberg to Bishop Gerhard in 1277, in which his predecessor already resided.
