Wernher († December 21, 1195 ) was Bishop of Gurk .

Wernher, who came from a family of ministers from Babenberg , became dean of the monastery in Klosterneuburg in 1167 and later provost . Werner refused to receive the ordination from the Passau bishop responsible for Klosterneuburg, who was on the emperor's side at the time of the schism. He therefore traveled to the Archbishop of Salzburg, Konrad II, in Friesach in 1167 , in order to be ordained a priest by him. As provost, he made a special contribution to donating the Verdun Altarpiece . In 1185 he renounced his dignity, probably in order to found a new monastery, but returned after the death of his successor Gottschalk in 1192.

In 1194 he was taken over by Archbishop Adalbert III. elected the new Gurk bishop.

Bishop Wernher died on December 21st, 1195. He is the first Gurk bishop who is known with certainty to be buried in his Gurk cathedral . His grave, a double grave with his third successor and nephew Otto I , is to the right of today's cross altar.
