Gertrud Schäfer (born February 1, 1880 in Lot , today in Beersel , Belgium , † February 13, 1945 in Dresden ) was a German lithographer and painter .

Life

By 1900 she was already in Dresden and took painting lessons from Robert Sterl in his painting school for women, founded in 1896 . Sterl was appointed to the Dresden Art Academy in 1904 and gave up his painting school for women. In the same year she exhibited her picture Stilles Land at the Great Art Exhibition in Dresden. It has matured to professional artist and has held various artists associations Member, in the Dresden Art Cooperative , the group Dresden artists , the Artists Association Weimar, the painters club Karlsruhe , the Karlsruhe Künstlerbund and German Artist Union until its forced dissolution in 1936. Until 1936 she was at the various art exhibitions represented with their works. As in Dresden in 1904, 1908, 1909, Graphic Exhibition of the Artists' Association of Leipzig 1907 Art Exhibition Hamburg 1910 Art Exhibition Chemnitz and Bremen in 1912, the first graphic arts exhibition in Leipzig in 1914, exhibitions in the Dresden Art Cooperative from 1917 to 1927, Saxon Watercolor Exhibition Dresden 1934 Saxon Art Exhibition Dresden 1934 and 1935. Her works were determined by a romantic rendering of nature in clear colors and great attention to detail. With her pictures she conveys the landscapes of the Moselle , Bavaria , Spessart , Eifel , Holland , the Baltic Sea and the Elbe landscapes. She mainly painted in gouache and chalk . In Dresden she last lived at Wallotstrasse 31, until then she was still registered as a Fräulein . In 1945 she lived in Dresden and after the devastating bombing raids on Dresden her trail is lost. It is likely that she lost her life in the process. With the exception of a few pictures, her entire artistic work was also destroyed.
