action

Budding actress Alex Weaver has little success in casting and has to work as a waitress for a living. In order to prepare for the test recordings for a possible role in a soap opera , she accepts the offer of her work colleague Susie and represents her in housekeeping . The owners of the elegant mansion in the Hollywood Hills , the Rankins, intend to spend the weekend on a sailing yacht. Mrs. Rankin, a pampered lady from high society, would also like to get away from the unrest caused by the murder of a neighbor and the subsequent police investigation the day before. Before he leaves, Alex learns that Mr. Rankin is a passionate rose breeder and that he attaches great importance to proper care of the plants during his absence.

Alex begins her audition by borrowing some clothes from Mrs. Rankin's elegant wardrobe. A little later the exterminator Mickey gains access to the house under a pretext. He turns out to be a recently released criminal and takes Alex hostage. After several attempts to escape fail miserably, Alex tentatively lets himself into a romance with her guardian. He tells her about a failed robbery from earlier years in which Mr. Rankin shot Mickey's brother and took Mickey himself to jail to arrange an insurance fraud. To settle the outstanding bill, Mickey is now patiently waiting for the homeowners to return.

Meanwhile, Alex has to get rid of the supposedly new and intrusive neighbor Willie. In reality he is the wanted psychopathic female murderer in the area. He has found his next victim in Alex, whom he takes to be Mrs. Rankin, but is eventually overwhelmed. When the Rankins return from their excursion, they find the house in a mess. In the cat-and-mouse game that follows, the threat situation changes several times. In the end, Mickey and Alex gain the upper hand while the Rankins are locked in the basement and Willie remains in the kitchen, injured by gunfire. Mickey moves abroad and some time later sees Alex as a series star on television. He sends her a copy of a valuable variety of rose that he had stolen from the Rankins' greenhouse when he escaped.

Reviews

“Only at the end does a little tension arise from the different levels of knowledge of those involved about the identity of the others. Unimaginative and sometimes awkwardly staged, mostly boring. "

“The unconventional film cannot decide whether it wants to be a love story or a thriller and in the end it is neither. Conclusion: bizarre thriller with bizarre resolution. "
