Yapo Gilles Donald Yapi (born January 30, 1982 in Abidjan ) is an Ivorian football player who currently plays in the second team of FC Basel .
former clubs
The offensive midfielder Gilles Yapi began his professional career in July 2000 at the Ivorian football club ASEC Abidjan , which he left in June 2001 to move to the Belgian first division club KSK Beveren . During the winter break, in early 2004, he was bought by the French first division club FC Nantes , with whom he received a contract until June 2007. In February 2006 he was loaned for three months to the Swiss first division club BSC Young Boys and made his debut there against FC Thun . Although the Bernese were initially unwilling to pay the transfer fee required by FC Nantes, the definitive change came about shortly before the transfer deadline on August 31, 2006. In January 2007, Yapi extended his contract early until 2010.
For the 2010/11 season he moved to FC Basel . He made his team debut on July 20, 2010 in a 3-2 home win against FC Zurich and he scored his first goal for Basel in a 3-0 home win over FC St. Gallen on August 1, 2010. He was in his first season in Basel Swiss champion. He was injured in the second game of the 2011/12 season and made his comeback in the away game against the Young Boys on February 16, 2012. At the end of the 2012/13 season , Yapi was Swiss champions for the third time with FC Basel and the team was in Cup final , which she lost after a penalty shootout . In the 2012/13 UEFA Europa League he made it to the semi-finals with FC Basel, where he met the UEFA Champions League winner, Chelsea . FC Basel lost both games and were eliminated with an aggregate result of 2: 5. His contract was not renewed; he moved to Dubai for Dubai SC .
Yapi has been playing for FC Zurich since July 2014 . On November 9, 2014, he was fouled by Sandro Wieser . He suffered eight different injuries, including a cruciate ligament tear. Wieser was suspended for six games; FC Zurich reported him for serious bodily harm.

Gilles Yapi has been a senior international for Ivory Coast since 2006 . In this role he took part in the 2006 soccer world championship in Germany .
