content
Josef Eder had actually hoped to inherit Bergbrunn Palace, but his father made a different decision and bequeathed it to his half-sister Gitta. Instead of looking at Josef's plans, Gitta is now developing a sports boarding school to give the local young people a home. So that the boarding school does not overwhelm the students, she asks the social worker Nele Seitz, who wants to start a new beginning after the death of her father, to help her. Various problems with the authorities and the students among themselves create stories that are shaped by competition, willingness to take risks, speed and competition.
Episode 1 - The new one
After the death of her father and the separation from her boyfriend, Nele Seitz, a social worker from Cologne, is looking for a new beginning. By chance she receives an attractive offer from her former lecturer and mentor Gitta Engel. This recently took over the management of a sports boarding school in the Bavarian province and wants to lead the facility to international renown under her hand .
She hires the young social pedagogue in order to meaningfully complement the existing teacher competence team for young competitive athletes. The regular teaching staff is quite critical of this decision and after her arrival Nele quickly realizes that not only the students need social tuition here. But she is not impressed by it and soon wins not only the trust of the young athletes. She has to take care of Konstantin Berz first. The young star mountain biker has a large internet fan base and is the school's upcoming star.
For a few weeks now, Constantine has been completely out of control and apparently ready to pay any price for his success. He still goes on more daring bike tours to film them and put them on the net. In addition, he rebels against everything and everyone at every opportunity and has difficulty getting a grip on himself. The young trainee teacher Isabelle Zieglitz also needs Nele's attention. Of course, she also gets to feel Constantine's whims, but is also bullied by other students and doesn't know why. In this context, Konstantin is suspected of having a fake cell phone photo in hand against Isabell. Nele tries to find out the background and at the same time to get through to Constantine. Ultimately, she succeeds in "catching" the athlete again and thus also clearing up the events surrounding Isabell Zieglitz.
Episode 2 - Fly, Liv, fly!
There is a lot of pressure on the 16-year-old long jumper Liv Sellmann because the rowing team of the sports boarding school unfortunately had to admit defeat to the competition in an important competition. She must now make the leap into the squad of the German Athletics Association so that Bergbrunn Castle can keep the premium seal of the Ministry of Culture and the urgently needed financial support associated with it is not lost.
But Liv is just not up to the situation at the moment. Her athletic performance has been falling for some time and her ambitious mother keeps reproaching her. There is also an important exam coming and going, and her apparent reluctance to take a blood test also raises questions. Nele tries to help Liv take the pressure off her and is dying to find out what's going on inside the girl. When Liv's ambitious mother announced that she was going to boarding school, she was inevitably confronted with her own past as a hopeful athlete. That doesn't necessarily make things any easier, because Marie Sellmann won Olympic gold and was trained by Nele's father Bernie Seitz.
But there are also dark clouds hanging over Bergbrunn Castle, because the sales contract with which the father of director Gitta Engel acquired the property is allegedly invalid. - For them it would mean the loss of the boarding school. She is sure that her half-brother Josef Eder is behind it, but to be able to stand up to this permanent opponent, Gitta depends on the help and understanding of judge Ingeborg Paulus.
Episode 3 - We are different
Amir Fareedi and Philipp Sander are the top luge athletes in double sleds at the sports boarding school and are actually a well-coordinated team. For some time now, however, there have been tensions and friendships between the two of them, which are also annoying the rest of the team - after all, everyone is facing an important competition that needs to be prepared for. Another argument between the two ends in a routine training run in a serious fall of the promising two-seater and makes it impossible for Amir and Philipp to take part in the competition.
In order to ensure the participation of Bergbrunn Castle in this important competition, solutions are feverishly searched for. A possible substitute would be Uschi Simmer's son Ben, who is a gifted tobogganist, but whose commitment brings a lot of explosive with it. Three years ago he had a serious accident with the sled in which his father was killed and he was also seriously injured. He is still walking on crutches and is actually only staying with his mother Uschi at Bergbrunn Castle for further convalescence, with whom he has had a distant relationship since the accident. In any case, his participation as a physically handicapped athlete is questioned by many. But Ben succeeds in helping the toboggan team to achieve the hoped-for success in qualifying for the competition, which finally gives the community on Bergbrunn a new sense of solidarity. Good thing, because when the team is supposed to be excluded from the competition due to their disability, everyone stands together and successfully fights for their rights. Mother and son also approach each other again and can thus celebrate the anniversary of his father's death together for the first time.
There is also tension between the athletics trainer Bianca Racke and her son Sebastian. Sebastian is about to graduate from high school at Bergbrunn, but social worker Nele Seitz finds out that his graduation is in danger. It will not be easy for her to help Sebastian and at the same time reconcile her performance-obsessed mother with her son.
In private, Nele is also torn. On the one hand, her friend Leonard Eder urges her to finally set up a joint apartment in his parents Therese and Josef Eder's inn, where he also works as a cook. On the other hand, there are the advances of her colleague, rowing coach David Marr, who asks Nele for advice on a very private matter.
Episode 4 - Being there is everything
It has become “tight” at Bergbrunn Castle. Headmistress Gitta Engel is therefore encouraged to do a selection, where only the top students should remain. Outsider Inna Prugowa is at the top of the list. The young Russian likes to dress extravagantly and provides the students with high-proof alcohol from time to time, which, measured by Inna's popularity, does not reward them. She also has no supporters among the teaching staff, only social pedagogue Nele Seitz is on her side and puts in a good word for the problem student.
The young rower Richard Hirschberg also causes problems for Nele. Driven by almost unattainable ambitions, he secretly trains in the icy meltwater with his kayak and gets a feverish infection in the process. But even that doesn't stop him from training until he eventually breaks down and the whole thing comes to light. His trainer David Marr therefore makes serious accusations that Richard may have conveyed the wrong goals.
Meanwhile, Gitta Engel is concerned with private problems much more. The board of directors assumes that she has a love affair with her colleague Uschi Simmer. And the rector actually loves a woman, but Ruth Limke, mother of the gifted beach volleyball player Katharina Limke, who has applied for a boarding school at Bergbrunn and whose prospects for success are therefore not bad from a sporting point of view.
Of course, Gitta Engel fears for her position as a whole, but she also quickly realizes that only she as a leader and role model can give the students direction and values. She critically questions herself whether she can and wants to tolerate exclusion. The teaching staff must also ask this question at the latest when Inna is sent to a fake party in the forest by some students at night and gets lost there - is Bergbrunn really this kind of togetherness?
When it comes to Nele, David doesn't know where he is at the moment. Although he can't get the first kiss between the two of them out of his head, this intimate moment remained unanswered and followed by silence and confusion. He is therefore considering leaving boarding school and moving to Copenhagen with his daughter. But Nele can dissuade him and therefore breaks off the relationship with Leonard.
Frustrated and as a result, Leonard lets his father Josef Eder wrap himself around his finger. He found out that Leonard will inherit the castle if Gitta Engel remains childless until her 50th birthday.
Episode 5 - Eye Test
The beach volleyball players have the chance of a sponsor. If that works, Julius Brink should become the new coach.

reception
criticism
“The new ZDF series […] looks like the result of a brainstorming session: What are the success components of the series about helpers with a heart, which aspects could be supplemented, what did not exist yet? For example a social worker ... and a boarding school. "
"[...] another of those Thursday series in which ZDF lets a helper with a heart act in Upper Bavaria; the climate there seems to be particularly favorable for people with a social streak [...] Nele Seitz (Maya Haddad) is a social worker; this profession was still missing from the ranks of mostly medical helpers. "
- Tilmann P. Gangloff on Tittelbach.tv
"A lot of jingling of words that also dominates the poorly conceived conflicts and even worse narrated scenes [...] Unfortunately, with the clichéd characters between tough sports school and idyllic country life in the second episode [...] it doesn't get any better"
- TV feature film for episodes 1 and 2
“ZDF stays true to the mountains on Thursdays and starts [...] a new series. It could bring a breath of fresh air to the genre, but it still prefers to follow familiar paths. "
- Alexander Krei on DWDL.de
"Meadow green and sheer ambition"
"[...] At least there seems to be a good radio network right down to the last milk can."
“How this institution, its characters, conflicts, potentials and quirks are presented is anything but clear, homely, tongue-in-cheek, as you know it from some other series. You have to put some things together from scraps of dialogue and hints, while others are slowly explained. A younger target group with different experiences and series expectations should be addressed here, without disappointing the older audience looking for the refreshed Heimatfilm. And that doesn't quite work together in the 'Berginternat'. "
