Girnitz is a district of the municipality of Schwarzhofen in the Upper Palatinate district of Schwandorf ( Bavaria ).

Girnitz is located about two kilometers northwest of Schwarzhofen, on State Road 2040 on the north bank of the Schwarzach .

history

Beginnings until the 18th century

Girnitz - also: Chirnizzingen (unsafe), Goernz, Görnitz, Gürnitz, Girniz - is one of the Slavic place names in the area of ​​the former district of Neunburg vorm Wald and is certainly documented from 1289. It bears witness to the early Slavic settlement of this area, especially in the valleys of the Ascha and Schwarzach, whose population was gradually pushed back or assimilated from around the 10th century by the advancing German settlement. Chirnizzingen (probably: Girnitz) was mentioned as early as 1150 in connection with a donation to the convent . In a document dated July 10, 1289 it was documented that Count Rapoto IV. Gave a farm and a mill in Girnitz to Ulrich von Meischendorf and his children.

Andreas, the son of Sigmund Prackendorfers , sat on the aristocratic Schönau estate. In 1467 he was enfeoffed with the mill in Girnitz, which was the Leuchtenberg fief. The fishing water in Girnitz was also a Leuchtenberg fief. It was awarded in 1506 to the brothers Leonhard and Georg Prackendorfer zu Prackendorf, in 1509 to Leonhard alone and in 1585 to Hans Thomas von und zu Prackendorf. According to an ordinance of 1808, the district court of Neunburg vorm Wald was divided into 55 tax districts. Haag near Schwarzhofen formed a tax district with the towns of Denglarn, Girnitz, Höfen near Uckersdorf, Krimling, Laubenhof, Raggau and Uckersdorf. At that time Girnitz had a miller, 11 properties and 86 residents.

From 1830 to 1972 Uckersdorf formed an independent community together with the villages of Girnitz, Höfen bei Uckersdorf and Schönau.

As of March 23, 1913 (Easter), Girnitz was listed as part of the Schwarzhofen parish with 12 houses and 71 residents. On January 1, 1972, the community Uckersdorf was incorporated into the community Schwarzhofen, so Girnitz came into the community Schwarzhofen.

On December 31, 1990 Girnitz had 45 residents and belonged to the parish of Schwarzhofen.
