Giuseppe Agostino (born November 25, 1928 in Reggio Calabria , Italy , † March 24, 2014 in Cosenza ) was Archbishop of Cosenza-Bisignano .

Life

Giuseppe Agostino received after studying theology and philosophy at the seminary of Rende on 15 July 1951, the priestly ordination . He was pastor of Villa San Giovanni . Archbishop Giovanni Ferro appointed him Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Reggio Calabria in 1973 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on December 21, 1973 Archbishop of Santa Severina and Bishop of Crotone. The episcopal ordination donated him the Archbishop of Reggio Calabria , Giovanni Ferro CRS , on February 11, 1974; Co- consecrators were Antonio Mauro , Vice-President of the Secretariat for the Non-Believers , and Santo Bergamo , Bishop of Oppido Mamertina .

After the union of the Diocese of Crotone with the Archdiocese of Santa Severina, he was appointed Archbishop of this new Archdiocese of Crotone-Santa Severina on September 30, 1986 . On June 6, 1998 he was appointed Archbishop of Cosenza-Bisignano . He was President of the Episcopal Conference of Calabria and Vice-President of the Italian Episcopal Conference CEI .

On December 18, 2004, John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation and appointed him Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese until the inauguration of his successor on February 25, 2005 .

Giuseppe Agostino initiated the process of beatification for Joachim von Fiore and the process of canonization for Gaetano Mauro .
