Giuseppe Casale

Giuseppe Casale (born September 28, 1923 in Trani , Province of Barletta-Andria-Trani , Italy ) is retired Archbishop of Foggia-Bovino .

Life

Giuseppe Casale was ordained a priest on February 3, 1946 . From 1949 to 1953 he taught history at the regional seminar in Chieti and later in Molfetta. Since 1959 he has been involved in the creation of magazines in which he dealt with problems in the education of young people and in workers' pastoral care. Shortly before his appointment as bishop, Casale took over the management of the regional center for catechism on behalf of the Bishops' Conference of Apulia .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on October 26, 1974 Bishop of Vallo della Lucania . He received his episcopal ordination on December 8th of the same year by the Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops Cardinal Sebastiano Baggio ; Co- consecrators were Gaetano Pollio PIME , Archbishop of Salerno-Acerno and Bishop of Campagna , and Giuseppe Carata , Archbishop of Trani e Barletta e Nazareth e Bisceglie . Casale's social problems were of particular concern. On May 7, 1988, Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Foggia-Bovino. In the same year Casale became founding president of the CESNUR association . He campaigned against the activities of the Mafia and was a delegate for social affairs, work and migration in the Italian Bishops' Conference. He is also strongly committed to reforms in line with the Second Vatican Council . Among other things, Casale speaks out in favor of a rethinking of the church in dealing with homosexuality.

On May 27, 1999, John Paul II accepted his resignation because of his age.
