history

The origin of the glass furnace is believed to have taken place in the Carolingian period. Originally the area of Glasofen and the associated hamlet Eichenfürst was Franconian King's Land, which was donated to the Imperial Abbey of Fulda and its subsidiary Holzkirchen monastery . In the Middle Ages, bailiffs regulated secular affairs and were appointed schirmer. The Counts of Wertheim secured the monastery bailiwick over wooden churches and the Fulda possessions and thus also incorporated glass furnaces into their county of Wertheim, which is based on different rights. In 1359 the glass furnace was part of the Cent Michelrieth ruled by the Counts of Wertheim.

After 1806 and 1814, Glasofen continued to be responsible for both the administration and the judiciary, an authority ruled by the Princes Löwenstein-Wertheim , the Kreuzwertheim Lordship Court . After the revolution , this administrative authority was converted into a state authority in 1848. From 1853 the district court Stadtprozelten was responsible.

In 1862, after the judiciary and administration were separated, the Marktheidenfeld district office was set up, on whose administrative area Glasofen was located. In 1879 the district court of Marktheidenfeld replaced the district court of Stadtprozelten in its jurisdiction for glass furnaces. In 1939, as everywhere in the German Reich, the designation district was introduced. Glasofen was now one of the 47 communities in the Marktheidenfeld district . With the dissolution of the Marktheidenfeld district in 1972, Glasofen came to the newly formed Main-Spessart district .

Glasofen joined Marktheidenfeld voluntarily on January 1, 1972 and was thus the first district of Marktheidenfeld. Before that, Glasofen with its district Eichenfürst was an independent municipality.

societies

fire Department

On November 20, 1874, the volunteer fire department was founded. 26 men could be counted as founding members. The initiative for this came from the then mayor Beck and the glass furnace teacher Messerer.

It is one of the oldest fire brigades in the region. The first fire engine from 1896 still had to be operated with muscle power. At the beginning of the 1950s, today's fire station with adjoining warehouse was built. In 1954 the then independent municipality of Glasofen procured the first motorized portable pump.

In 1990 the city of Marktheidenfeld procured a TSF, the first motorized vehicle for the Glasofen fire brigade with a removable TS 8.

Kohlerverein

In 1979 citizens had the idea of producing charcoal for their own needs. Based on the model of the coal pile in the Spessart, Robert Hepp, Hermann Kempf, Walter Wolf and Otmar Väth built the first coal pile in Glasofen. The kiln had to be guarded around the clock for several days. As a result, an annual family reunion developed in an idyllic place a little remote from the village at the edge of the forest. More and more friendly families joined this community and an association was founded. With an old construction trailer and with a lot of commitment, everything began in small steps at today's “Köhlerplatz”. Today the Köhlerplatz consists of a log cabin with toilet facilities, a campsite with a fireplace and a soccer field. Every year in August the Koehler Festival takes place here, during which time the kiln burns. About 30 sterling wood is processed every year .

Choral society

The Mixed Choir (officially Mixed Choir Glasofen eV) was founded in 1921 as the Glasofen men's choir. On April 15, 1947, the choir was re-established by the then teacher and later honorary conductor Arthur Säder and the then chairman Karl Werner. This time as a mixed choir.

The mixed choir had about 50 members at that time and was led by the teacher Säber.

In 2011 a project choir was founded with the aim of attracting new, young singers. Since then, the project choir has existed without interruption and has since given itself the name Querbeat.

The choral society is the cultural carrier in Glasofen and regularly organizes the church services. The choirs also take part in recitals and performances and organize their own recital every spring.

In 1951 the traditional costume group was founded as part of the choral society.

Costume group

Traditional costumes glass furnace (Kiliani pageant 2015)

In 1951 the traditional costume group was founded as a division of the choral society and the first traditional costume festival was celebrated. At that time, the later honorary chairman Karl Werner, who died in 2003, and the teacher Georg Furkel began to collect the folk costumes worn in the county villages of Altfeld, Glasofen, Kredenbach, Michelrieth, Oberwittbach and Steinmark. They also found support from the collector Johann Adam Mohr from Michelrieth. It was continuously built up, the costumes were completed and folk dances were rehearsed for performances. In 1969 a big festival of local folk and traditional costumes caused a sensation in the then still independent community of Glasofen. When the company celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1976, the festival was under the patronage of the patron saint Alfred-Ernst Fürst zu Löwenstein-Wertheim-Freudenberg. A year later, the "Glasf'lder" found their roof at the United Bavarian Costume Associations. Attending parties, parades, home evenings and even TV recordings became almost everyday. In 1981 the 30th anniversary was celebrated in a glass oven together with the 29th Lower Franconian District Costume Festival under the motto "Customs and traditions of the elderly - we want to preserve". In 1987 a children's costume group was founded, which was equipped with an authentic costume. In the last few years children and young people from neighboring towns have found their way to the »Glasf'ldern« and share their joy in traditional dress and dance. In 1991, solid ties were established with the folklore group from Marktheidenfeld's Breton twin town, Montfort sur Meu. With »An Abbaden nevez« a working friendship with many encounters has developed. The highlights were a joint participation in the anniversary procession of the Munich Oktoberfest in 2000 and at the international festival "Folklore du Monde" in 2005 in Saint-Malo / France. From the 55th anniversary year 2006, the »Glasf'lder« will have around 20 active dancers and just as many children and young people. There are also other traditional costumes, so that you can appear in public with over 50 people in county costumes, whereby the wedding costume with the bridal crown is a very special feast for the eyes.
